How much do golf carts cost?

You see them almost everywhere. Sporting events, retirement communities, neighborhoods, the golf course. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, makes and models the list is endless . If you haven’t guessed it by now I am referring to the golf cart and one of the most commonly asked questions about the golf cart is “how much should I expect to pay when purchasing a golf cart”.  Well there are a few rules of thumb that can help you along the way.

The first is decided whether you are in the market for a gas or electric car. Gas cars tend to be more expensive across the board whether its new or used. When choosing between gas and electric be sure to keep in mind maintenance costs as they can bite you in the butt later down the road. For example a set of new batteries for an electric car can run you as much as $1,400.00!

The next rule is to check and see what year the car is. Generally speaking golf cars depreciate an average of $200.00 a year, so if a brand spanking new car is $8,000 and you are looking at model 5 years older at $7,500.00 it would be wise to ask if they have done any work to the car. Keep in mind depreciation is also based on many other factors such as condition of the body and where it was in use and if any refurbishing work was done to the car.

A more unknown rule is to always check underneath the seat. Under the seat is where you will find your engine for a gas car and batteries for electric cars. Looking at that area gives you a good picture on how well the car has been maintained, if you notice a ton of corrosion on a set batteries well chances are the were not taken car of properly and like I mentioned above that can hurt your wallet in the future. Same goes for the gas cars, dirty air filter, dirty oil and leaks can all be checked by just lifting up the seat and giving it a peak.

Now for the info most people are wanting ” but how much should a car cost?” If you are looking a purchasing a brand new car of any make you should be prepared to spend anywhere from $6,000- $10,000 and if the seller has added any after market parts it could be even higher. If you are in the market for a used car there are more factors at play as mentioned above but anything 5 years or older (2016-or below) you should not expect to pay more than $5,000.
